Those of us living in deserts aren’t so flash on wader ID. Can anyone help me with this one I found at the sewage ponds in Alice Springs today.
I’m 90% sure it is a Pacific Golden Plover, but looking in some of the field guides I almost think the bill is too chunky, the head a bit big, the way the pattern on the forward edge of the wing cuts up a little further back – perhaps could be a Grey Plover.
Can some wader savant out there give me a hand?

It looks like a golden to me, Chris – it is too colourful to be a grey. A grey would also look beefier.
