G’day all Just a note that this excellent field guide app is on special (a third of the usual price) for $A5.49. It’s a USA back to school promotion so grab it while you can. Only for Apples gadgets – sorry. thanks – by the time I bought it there were 1280 photos, which took a similar time to yours to download. But for a mere $3 it’s worth supporting. Will be interesting to see how it progresses. I also bought, for $2.99, The Birds of South America. It appears to be a new app and claims to feature 3000 species. It took 2 minutes to down load to my iPhone. There were no photos/pictures included, however, I then downloaded 1180 images (photos and drawings) WHICH TOOK 2.5 hrs TO COMPLETE. BEWARE IF YOU DO THIS I USED UP MY MONTHLY DATA ALLOWANCE. The photos are, in many cases, very good but there seems to be only a max of 2 per any specific bird – at this stage. The bonus is that if you get the app now, at this price, they say they will provide updates free as they progressively add more info and the price will rise. There is no requirement to download the images incidentally – its your choice. I can’t say it is the ultimate guide to birds of S America – there is a brief description of each species and a written description of where it may be seen – not a map. But I figured for $2.99 it wasn’t a bad deal and if it all went to hell in a handbasket – I’d just delete it and no big loss. It’ll be interesting, I think, to see how it develops. Hopefully they will update to maps in the future. Unfortunately the large data file download is a “feature” of many apps. Where possible (and this of course depends on the device you have) always best to do by WiFi On 25 August 2013 07:55, Colin R < jangles@fastmail.fm> wrote: — Dave Torr *Save the Planet* It’s the only one with chocolate.
