other numbers

– After a start with few Cuckoos, by midsummer the count had progressed to
zero, & now there has been no northering cuckoo migration seen or heard
here. (Even the non-migrant, non-parasitic Pheasant Coucals have this
season been conspicuously silent.)

– There have been horribly few WTNs to report to MikeT.

All these migrant species face multi-impact specialised threats, & perhaps
the places where they start declining should provide first warning of
vulnerable spp. & of future outcomes.

At this location the drought has just broken & the hills are transformed.
Our local birds are reappearing, in depleted numbers.
