John Darnell of the Western Australian Museum has just informed me that an Oriental Scops Owl Otis sunia was seen alive but later found dead (now prepared as a specimen) aboard a supply ship operating in NW Australia between Barrow Island and the mainland on 12 May 2013. The ship was at all times in Australian waters and had not been near ships from over-seas. This species breeds in NE Asia with some populations migrating to SE Asia. Thus like the Forest Wagtail, it appears to be a reverse-migrant.
