I spoke to Alan Pedersen (our local councillor) at the Mt Molloy PO this morning. He lives a fair way along Hurricane Road. They had 100 mm of rain there last night. The rain has been pretty patchy so what there was back towards the highway and Mt Carbine, I would not know. He got in to Mt Molloy OK but then he had a 4WD. That road was graded and gravelled about 2-3 years ago and has been in good order since. The gullies which run across it are pretty short and the water goes down quickly so a half a day or so after the rain stops, you should be able to negotiate it. There is one gully about 1 km or so along the road from the highway which can have a depth of water in it – best idea is to walk through it first if you are worried about it. I would be fairly sure you will get across it OK with a standard 2WD. I have never had any trouble with a Suzuki Jimny since the road was rebuilt. You should get to the Kondarparinga turnoff OK – and probably further towards Hurricane though I am not sure of the conditions past the turnoff. You will only get down the Kondarparinga road as far as the Mitchell River – there will be a metre or more of fast flowing water across the crossing (locally known as the Cooktown Crossing) at present.
Be aware that the country on each side of Hurricane Road belongs to Curraghmore Station (at least as far as the Mitchell River) which has a new owner. I spoke to him a couple of months ago and he is OK with with one two people birding there but commercial groups need special permission from him if they are going off the road – i.e. to the dams for Black-throated Finches etc. He has had trouble with hooning campers around the crossing area apparently.

Just looking at the radar, there seems to be alot of showers over the entire area this afternoon. We have had around 25 mm so far today.
Does anyone know if Hurricane Rd north of Mt Carbine is open and passable for a 2WD vehicle at this time?
