Congratulations to John. Wonderful news! What a superb result to a lifetime spent searching out the most difficult and cryptic of birds, and in such inaccessible surroundings. Thanks John for sharing your knowledge and fascination with Australia’s birds and butterflies, and achieving the holy grail. During a tour with John to Iron Range in 2007, he told us of his plans to sit out in the spinifex country and listen until he found the parrot – and he’s done it.!! Stupendous!

And my congratulation to John, and Tom, too and I agree with everything Paul and Ian say. For me it will be one of those events where people say “Where were you when [insert name, died, was born etc etc]”. Personally I can never remember where I was when such momentous events occurred but I doubt I will ever forget the moment this news broke.

    Congratulations and thanks John

Congratulations John, an absolutely extraordinary achievement! I remember reading in the archives recently, when discussing searching for Night Parrot, someone (and I forget who) said that if money was no object they’d simply hire John Young and tag along. Well, it would appear that never a truer word was spoken! John told me that this was the culmination of 17,000 hours spent in the field over 15 years. If this is the case, Ian May is absolutely correct – I too can think of no-one that deserves this more! Once again, congratulations John!

Congratulations to John. This is wonderful news for Australian ornithology. Nothing like sheer perseverance to obtain a goal. I am looking forward to seeing the video Wednesday! Regards Alastair

For some reason if I click the link I do need to log in. If I google Night Parrot (as suggested by a helpful friend) and click the link in google then it works!
