Newhaven update from AWC

Thanks for all the positive feedback about the Newhaven trips to those who have posted; to Chris Watson for the great article on his Birds Central blog and also Mark Carter for his astute commentary (from one who knows the desert well).

In the last few weeks 43 people have visited Newhaven and seen the Princess Parrots. All seem to be happy that their time in the desert and at Newhaven was time well spent.

The Princess Parrots on Newhaven are still here, though seem to be moving around a bit more than when they were first seen 3 weeks ago. AWC staff and volunteers will continue to escort interested parties to the area where the parrots have been observed, however we will now only be doing so on certain days (Sat-Tue weekly) so it is important to plan trips in advance and call through to make bookings-(08) 8964 6000. We are collecting information on behaviour, location and movements on every visit and hopefully by the time the parrots decide to move off again, to roam the deserts, we will have learned more about these enigmatic birds and will be able to share these insights. Thankyou Peter and Toni for the wonderful effort you are putting into hosting visitors and collecting information. Volunteers contributions to our conservation efforts are important and greatly appreciated. At Newhaven alone we are supported by up to 50 volunteers each year. we could not do what we do without you (I know some of you will be reading this)! Hope to see more visitors over the weeks to come.

Kind Regards,

Joe Schofield and Danae Moore
