New mystery call

Gooday Tom Could your mystery bird be a either a pale-headed rosella or crimson rosella. It certainly has a rosella quality, to my ears. Michael

Spent the day avoiding horse-races and analyzing calls on the SW backup Sensor (of the Camp Mountain Samford, SE Qld site) that were captured on 15 October 2010

During the 14.30 hrs clip I came across a 5-note repetition call that I’m sure I should know (but couldn’t remember…)

Please visit the BSQ Audio site http://www.aviceda.org/audio/?page_id=142and have a listen to my latest challenge.

Tom

Just a quick one to thank everyone who has responded to my recent ‘Mystery Call’ postings, I’ve just added a new ‘Poll’ to the last call (the 5-note one) http://www.aviceda.org/audio/?p=160 Seems like there is some debate between Pale-headed Rosella, White-throated Treecreeper and two Shrike-thrush species!

Though I really want to make this a ‘Birding-Aus’ feature, I would also appreciate if you would either have a go at the poll and/or leave a constructive comment on the web-page….

    Cheers heaps,

    Tom

    Hi David,

Have you compared it to Nick Leseberg’s recording of a White-throated Treecreeper on Xeno Canto. The shorter of his two records sounds like Tom’s bird.

    Regards

    Judith

    Hi Tom,

I think Marie is right about this being a White-throated Treecreeper. I would say that the inflection, timber and pitch rules out the Pale-headed Rosella and just does not ring true for a Shrike-thrush.

Have you listened to Nick Leseberg’s recording of the White-throated Treecreeper on Xeno Canto. The first of his two recordings sounds like your bird.

    Kind regards

    Judith

My money’s on ‘White-throated Treecreeper’ Marie

My audio on the computer is not great but I wasn’t convinced that it was a Grey Shrike-thrush but the rosella suggestion has more merit.
