Hello all, I am a university student from the US visiting for the next three weeks. Back home I study the breeding ecology of cliff swallows (similar to the Australian fairy martin). I am hoping this Australian birding group will help me in my search for an active fairy martin colony in Victoria. I have been looking under bridges/culverts in the Melbourne area, but I have not seen any fairy martin nests. If any of you awesome Australian birders know the location of a large fairy martin colony in Victoria, please comment or respond via email. I can use an address, directions, or GPS coordinates if necessary. I will use anything in my search to find a fairy martin colony! Cheers, Catherine Page catherine-page@utulsa.edu 0435928976

Hi Catherine. Welcome to Melbourne/Victoria/Australia. I know of three such sites, all quite small colonies however: 1. In a culvert under Beach Rd (publicly accessible) within the Western Treatment Plant at Werribee, ie between the Beach Rd entrance gate and the boat-ramp. 2. In a culvert under Beach Rd (the sealed public road) between Avalon Airport and the Beach Rd entrance to the Western Treatment Plant. 3. On the cliff-face of the Werribee River adjacent to the driveway into the Werribee Park Golf Course. If you need more information, feel free to get back to me. Regards. Richard

Hi Catherine I know of a fairly large breeding colony of Fairy Martins. What do you want them for? Can you provide more information about yourself and your study please. Just being careful.
