National Twitchathon this weekend

Hi all,
The BirdLife Australia Twitchathon is happening this weekend. Across the country teams will be competing in different race formats in an effort to find as many species of birds as possible and to raise money for various conservation projects. Teams will be competing against each other in their own states, with a detailed matrix created to calculate a ‘national winner’ based on percentages of a possible tally of species within polygons assigned different handicap coefficients (i.e. anyone can win!). More information on how to register and sponsor teams is at the link below.

The Hunter Home Brewers will be competing in the main race (‘Big Weekend’) of the NSW arm of the event for their 19th consecutive year. Changes to the main race rules have seen us completely re-think our entire itinerary, with several additional hours of daylight now available on the Saturday. As such, we’re hoping for big total of birds this year, in an effort to raise a big total of funds for the Bitterns in Rice project, which is revealing some amazing aspects of the ecology of ‘bunyip birds’.

Preliminary results will be announced at the Australasian Bird Fair the following weekend. Get involved as a participant or a sponsor and I’ll see you out there.
CheersMick
