Hi Kirri,
I saw a similar thing about 20 years ago at Currie Harbour on King Island.
At the time the Musk Ducks were diving and catching crabs at the bottom of
the harbour. The water was very clear so it was possible to watch them
swimming underwater. They were diving to depths of around 5 – 7m. Their
behaviour reminded me of eider ducks in the northern hemisphere.
The Bass Strait islands also get large number of Musk Ducks on the
freshwater lagoons.
Cheers,
Euan Moore
