more Fork-tailed Swifts in Cairns

Dear Mike & all, I’ve just been observing at 10:25am today a rather large loose flock of Fork-tailed Swifts hawking low above the Captain Cook Hwy in Smithfield, 20kms north of Cairns. There was about 50 Forkies, together with a handful of White-breasted Woodswallows and Welcome Swallows as well as 2 Fairy Martins, but no Needletails or Swiftlets. The mixed flock was feeding just below & above telegraph pole height; weather sunny & fine (but humid); & the swifts were heading generally to the north as I found them again when arriving home at Trinity Beach about 10kms to the north, so presumably these were the same birds. cheers, martin cachard, trinity beach, cairns.
