Moonlight Creek

The crossing of Moonlight Creek on the northern road accessing Weipa today produced a host of good birds in about 40 minutes:
Shining and Leaden Flycatcher,
Grey and Rufous Fantail,
Red-browed Finch – brightly coloured northern race,
Spectacled Monarch,
Tropical Scrubwren,
Yellow Oriole,
Large-billed and Fairy Gerygone,
Spotted and Graceful Honeyeater,
Little Shrike-thrush,
Spangled Drongo,
and … Tawny-breasted Honeyeater.

Not a bad set of birds for a couple from Grafton, with a few new races.
The Black Butcherbird was heard, but as has been the way for the whole trip, not seen.

Peter and Bev Morgan

The conservation battle is never finally won; the development battle is.
