MELBOURNE BIRD PHOTOGRAPHERS MEET AND GREET/FREE WORKSHOP

Hi all,

I’ve had a few questions about the content etc of the workshop and whether the meet and greet is in association with BOCA/Birds Australia

* The workshop will be a quick run down on getting the most out of your camera, stalking skills, tricky exposure situations etc etc

* There will be some discussion of “ethical” bird photography but this topic will not be discussed in detail.

* All instruction is given while stressing the importance of ethical bird photography practices (in-line with NANPA’s ethical guidelines which will be handed out on the day).

* I do not use bird calls or perch setups so this will not be part of the workshop.

* The meet and greet is not associated with any bird group and is just a chance for bird photographers to meet and exchange techniques and ideas.

* All money from $5 cost will be donated to Birds Australia’s “Australian Bird fund”.

* The workshop is relevant to all sorts of cameras…film, point and shoot, DSLR’s etc.

I hope this answers any questions you may have and I hope to see you there,

Paul Randall (wingsonwire.com)

    Paul,

I have always been wary of free lunches, so I would be happy to pay a moderate fee. If your workshops do happen spread over the border in the future, I would certainly be interested. You can never learn too much about a subject.

    Cheers,

    Carl Clifford

I would love to run something similar in other states if the interest was there Carl!! Unfortunately the workshops would not be free as I would have to cover travel and accommodation costs etc. This particular workshop is to help me get the hang of giving workshops to larger numbers of people (which is a bit different to the “one on one” workshops I am currently running). Also its a great chance to meet others with the same hobby/interest as well as sharing some of the techniques that we use in the field.

    Dave,

They are pretty much the same. The NANPA code of ethics can be found at http://www.nanpa.org/docs/NANPA-Ethical-Practices.pdf

The BOCA code mentions “flashlights”. Does that refer to what many Australians call a “torch” or to a photographic “flash”? With more and more Australians seemingly adopting Americanisms such as using “flashlight” for a torch, perhaps it should be clarified on the site. Even changing the word “flashlight” to “flash” would sufficiently.

    Cheers,

    Carl Clifford

I would be interested to see how that code compares to the one adopted by BOCA (http://boca.org.au/about-boca/our-policies)

    Hi Paul,

Great to see the mwntions of ethics and the adherence to NANPA’s code of ethics.

Any thoughts on having a similar session in Sydney?

    Cheers,

    Carl Clifford
