Mallard at Bells Beach (winkipop)

I just came across this article on a surfing website that mentions a mallard in big surf at Bells Beach. Seems very odd…thought i’d share:

The whole article can be found here- http://www.coastalwatch.com/news/article.aspx?articleId=8838

I surfed Winkipop last Sunday with a duck. It was the first ocean going duck I?d ever encountered; a mallard, metallic green head with black collar. I?ve seen plenty of penguins, muttonbirds, and gannets out in the lineup here, and I?ve seen plenty of pelicans from Melbourne in freshly purchased steamers, but I?d never before seen a duck. I looked at him; he looked at me. We were both foreign species to these parts ? me a New South Welshmen, him a duck ? and he certainly looked perplexed as to why he was swimming amongst six-foot sets when there were several peaceful lakes in the area.
