A motley bunch of dogs is at the forefront of a new push to eradicate rabbits, mice and rats from Macquarie Island. The dogs have been trained to sniff out rabbits. I agree – but what a pity they did not take a holistic look at the issues when they decided to kill only the cats about 10 years ago.
It was the absence of cats that let the rabbits run riot and start physically destroying the island.
