Lightweight tripod for mini spotting scope

I have recently purchased a mini spotting scope (a Vortex Razor HD 11-33 X
50mm) to take with me on trips when birding is an occasional, ancillary
activity (rather than the primary activity, for which I take my full-size
Kowa scope and Manfrotto tripod). The Vortex is small enough to be easily
packed in regular luggage and to be carried in a bicycle basket or pannier,
or a back-pack.

However the free tripod which accompanied the purchase (and hence was not
refused), while of reasonable quality, is full-sized and quite heavy – quite
out of keeping with the advantages of the “baby” scope.

I am therefore interested in readers’ advice about, and experiences with, a
small, light, good quality, stable (not asking for much am I?) tripod in
keeping with my mini scope and its obvious advantages. I realise that this
might necessarily involve relatively expensive materials, eg carbon fibre.

As an aside, I think it is fair to say that many of the smaller camera
tripods do not operate very effectively with a spotting scope – they are
designed for a different purpose and have relatively poor functionality with
a spotting scope.
