Koels at night

Does anyone know how koels spend their evenings? I quite often hear them calling around midnight, and wonder if they are just giving a contact call (although why is hard to fathom if still roosting, unless perhaps they’ve been disturbed by a carpet python or something and now regaining contact with mates), doing something sneaky like seeing out nests to lay in (although I assume most nests are occupied at night, and why betray their presence with calls anyway?), a courtship call (mating when their prospective hosts aren’t around to mob them?) or if they do some of their feeding at night Cheers Ronda Ronda Green, BSc(Hons) PhD Araucaria Ecotours (advanced eco-certification on all tours) http://www.learnaboutwildlife.com platypuscorner@bigpond.com ph 61 7 5544 1283 Visit us on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/AraucariaEcotours Araucaria Blog: http://araucariaecotours.com.au Chair Wildlife Tourism Australia: http://wildlifetourism.org.au Chair Scenic Rim Wildlife: http://scenicrim.wildlife.org.au/ Adjunct research fellow, Environmental Futures Centre, Griffith University _______________________________________________ Birding-Aus mailing list Birding-Aus@birding-aus.org To change settings or unsubscribe visit: http://birding-aus.org/mailman/listinfo/birding-aus_birding-aus.org
