Hi John If you’re staying at Kingfisher Park, I’m sure that Keith or Lindsay will give you the latest sightings. We found the Parrot-finches where they said to look, namely:- about 3 or 4 kms west of Kingfisher Park on the road to Mt Molloy, you’ll find Sides Road going off to the right (signposted). This creates a ‘T’ intersection. Here, you’ll notice 2 sites on the left for parking or turn into Sides Rd and park just along there on the right. When standing at the T, walk west (Mt Molloy direction) for about 30 metres and you’ll see a rough vehicle track off to your left – the track itself is about 200m long and leads to a sugar-cane farm. It’s a private road but the owner allows genuine birders to use it. There’s a shallow running creek along the track. We found the finches beside the track once and beside the creek the 2nd time. We saw them drinking from the creek as well. Both times we found them very close to the ground – eating small white fluffy seeds from a low growing leafy plant that Keith told us was a feral introduction. Meg could hear their high ‘contact’ call – I’m too deaf. We also found them feeding high in a tree after they’d been ‘spooked’. We counted 8 the 1st time and 6 the 2nd, but others found up to 20 – it depends when you go. Our experience suggests middle afternoon is the best. There were none on Mt Lewis. Hope this helps Brian
