    That’s interesting Ross.

I was there on Sunday for the OBP count and I couldn’t help thinking that water levels were a little too high and birds weren’t as abundant as usual.

Perhaps someone has tried to create more favourable conditions. If so, it would be a terrible shame if it results in restricted access.

    Hi John,

I think the assumption is that apart from Melbourne Water staff, only birders have easy access to the WTP. Anyone else wouldn’t have a key so would have to walk in to mess with the systems in place.

I hope this issue goes away now, as the WTP is in my opinion one of the best birding sites in Australia! It would be a shame if someone, accidentally or deliberately, ruined it for the rest of us.

    Regards, Chris

Who else would benefit from a change in water levels? It could be someone mucking around, but who’d want to put their hands in poo to cause damage that very few people will see? It’s not really a typical vandal style.

That said, I can’t really believe birders would bother either.

Why would they assume it’s bird-watchers?
