I have just received an email from a reliable observer “Jabiru at swamp next to new Bunnings near Wallsend.” The E-bird map suggests this may be of interest to folk in the Hunter area. Martin Butterfield http://franmart.blogspot.com.au/

    Hi Martin, Thanks for that. Black-necked Storks are now regularly seen in the Hunter Estuary and there is almost certainly a nest on Hexham Swamp, which once confirmed (it’s a long way from anywhere – Hexham Swamp is enormous) would be the southernmost known (current) nest for the species. That swamp next to Bunnings is where an Eastern Yellow Wagtail turned up on the 7th Jan this year and where 11 Aussie Painted Snipe were found on the same day (the latter were there for about a week or so).
