Well, they managed to do it in Singapore. Some years back, i read in the local paper that the Government was employing ex army guys to run around on motor scooters and pop off crows. I saw a guy in action on Sentosa Island (where the casino and an entertainment centre is) with a long barreled .22 sniping crows in the trees. He was using .22 short low velocity ammo, so as not to disturb the punters. Also the Govt recruited the local gun club http://news.nationalgeographic.com.au/news/2007/01/070108-crows.htm As the gun club guys were using 12 gauges, they tended to stick to less populated areas. I’m interested in this bird also. I had a look last night without any luck and not many Little Raven’s either. Unfortunately can’t have another look today but I’m hoping someone else tracks it down if it’s there. I actually emailed the birder that found it but haven’t received a reply yet. I was a bit surprised by “Large crow noticed”. It should rather be “Small crow noticed”. House Crow is with 41-43 cm length smaller than any Australian corvid. (Escaped) Hooded and Mesopotamian Crow may fit the description better. However, pigment aberrations are well known in corvids. So, why not a ‘funny’ Little Raven? My sentiments exactly. House Crows make Common Mynahs look like your grannies Canary when it comes to aggressiveness towards other birds. On a recent trip to Nepal, I saw more House Crows than any other species. In a park in Pokhara, I saw a group of them chase off a couple of Egyptian Vultures. They are nasty aggressive birds that breed like rabbits. Not a species that we want in Australia. Carl Clifford

I am intrigued by the Birdline reference to “Large crow”. From when we lived in Tanzania (where these birds are a disaster for local species) I had thought they were quite small (for corvids). Stevenson and Fanshawe give the length of House Crow as 33cm (or 13″) while Pizzey and Knight state 48-52cm for both Little Raven and Australian Raven. (The comparison is similar to that between Jackdaws and Carrion Crows in Europe.) Hopefully it has disappeared through the activities of an appropriately armed wildlife person.
