Well perhaps the Young Turks can throw us old fogeys a lifeline occasionally. How difficult would it be after half an hour’s orgiastic intercourse with social media to send an email to Birding-aus “10:00 Dowitcher now on north side of lake” or whatever the latest is, it would take 20 seconds. [I am a bit biased against Facebok, I admit. I have never signed up to it, yet every day I get 2-3 emails from them asking me if I know X, Y, or Z. Somehow Facebook has hijacked my Gmail and is using it to try to bully me into signing up. I object strongly to this, and so I will only join the *next *social media revolution]. — John Leonard

Good on yer Dave – I’ve been on Facebook for a couple of years – with discretion. As others have concisely pointed out it’s “horses for courses” and we go where our interests are best served and that will probably need multiple touch points and sources for some time to come. Nothing against Facebook at all in case I am misunderstood. But then I am not a Twitcher – at least not in the “drop everything and hop on a plane” category, though I have great respect for those who are so inclined. As such, I place less importance on immediacy.
