Guide to birds of Borneo Sumatra Java and Bali by MacKinnon

Hi all

Does anyone have a copy of

*Field Guide to the Birds of Borneo, Sumatra, Java, and Bali*, by *John MacKinnon* *and Karen Phillipps*, Oxford University press,

that you would like to sell? I have left it too late to order from Amazon as I am leaving on 13th August from Sydney.

Thanks,

I was at the Sabah Museum in Kota Kinabalu in about Sept last year and they had all of the aforementioned books, including several of the old Mackinnon and Phillips, one of which I bought (but it wasn’t cheap). I second Carl’s recommendation of going to Borneo Books too, but beware, if you’re also interested in plants, fungi, mammals, frogs etc etc you might end up spending a lot of money there cos there any many great temptations! This is all of course assuming you’re going to Borneo. I can’t recommend any places to buy books in the other 3 islands and imagine it would be a tough call. Mick

    Hi Chris,

Do you only need the book for Borneo? If so and are entering via Kota Kinabalu, try Borneo Books http://www.borneobooks.com/blog/  They probably will not have McKinnon & Phillips (but you never know), but they certainly keep Myers and, usually, Quentin Phillipps’ “Birds of Borneo”. I have bought both of my copies there. Borneo Books is worth a look anyway, if you have some time in KK. They do an excellent mail service, which is handy if you happen to run amok in there, as I have done a few times.

    Cheers,

    Chris,

Have you tried Fishpond? You might be able to get it quick through them? Try this url there are a number of options, including (I think) the ones Nick Haas has recommended above.

    Hi Chris,

I guess this doesn’t help in your situation but there are two newer bird field guides: Birds of Borneo: Brunei, Sabah, Sarawak, and Kalimantan (2009) by Susan Myers andPhillipps’ Field Guide to the Birds of Borneo: Sabah, Sarawak, Brunei and Kalimantan (2011, 2nd ed.) by Karen Phillipps and Quentin Phillipps (the latter is the fully revised edition of the one you are looking for)

    Cheers,

    Nikolas
