How does the idea of a Jackdaw come into it? The photo was taken in south
coast NSW. Surely the best idea is to ask the person who was there, before
we go all over: was / is it behaving like a magpie, raven, currawong? I now
reckon it is a Magpie, based on shape of its head and guessing at size, as
others are writing. Discussing black-backed / white backed is irrelevant. It
will probably be due to a single gene mutation arising from within its own
population.

Apart from that, why does it matter? It is an albino of something. It
happens.

As for: “Possible aviary escape, maybe from someone doing some selective
breeding?” Possible on minute to non existent level. Need to think about
what is reasonable and likely. Are there any exotic birds of that shape
being selectively bred in Australia?
