Hi all,
I don’t normally spam my website on here unless there’s something useful to the mailing list, but I was wondering if anyone with any experience with frogs in Australia would mind casting an eye over this lot to see if I’ve made any howling errors: http://www.tonykeenebirds.co.uk/afrogs.html There’s not too much detail on a lot of species available out there and a fair portion of what there is isn’t too well referenced. I know it’s a birding list, but there are some people on here with quite a lot of frog knowledge. Any corrections and suggestions welcome! I think with the exception of two photos in that section, all the photos were made using Ed Williams’ spotlight – cheers for that, Ed! All the best and thanks,

Hi All,
Just wanted to say a further ‘thanks’ to everyone who has replied on the frogs – some very useful information, links and suggestions, not to mention the correct IDs… I’ve not had time to reply to everyone individually as I’ve been busy getting everything ready for a trip to Japan with work, but I’ll try to get replies done soon. Thanks again!

Hi all,
Thanks for all the responses! Regarding the Cane Toad / Ornate Frog, when I saw it my first thought was Cane Toad and I was going to (ahem) extirpate it. However, it was less than 2 cm in length, which I thought was rather on the small side, so the critter wasn’t reduced to jam. I got a second opinion later and Ornate Frog was what was settled on, but I’m happy to pull that page. I’ve removed the link from the frogs page, but here’s the page itself for reference/chance to laugh at a mis-ID… Cheers!
Tony

Your Ornate Frog (Cophixalus ornatus) is a Cane Toad. Its sounds a spectacular mis-id in terms of scale. Adult weight for Cophixalus is about 1 gram and Cane Toads get to 1kg, so in (adult) scale its about the same as identifying an eagle as a fairy-wren. But its not hard to mis-id tiny toads when you first meet them.

Tony, you could also try asking in the Identification forum at http://frogs.org.au/community/ if you don’t get all the answers here.
