Flame Robin, Latrobe University Wildlife Reserve

Flame Robins used to be quite common as winter migrants in the northern suburbs when I started bird-watching c. 1970. Today I had a good if brief view of a single male and thought it notable. This was at Latrobe University’s Wildlife Reserve, by the Central Wetland just east of the main north-south track. Also seen – Spotted Pardalotes, Superb Fairy-wrens, Eastern Spinebills and some unidentified LBBs. A Great Egret was fishing among the reeds.

    Hi Anthea,

The northern suburbs are more urbanised now than they were 30 years ago which would possibly lead to less birds wintering in these areas.
