He immediately called WIRES and the Fiordland Penguin came into care. It had been injured by either another marine creature or a propeller and has a wound on his chest which is now healing well (2nd October). Observer: WIRES Further Information: http://www.wires.org.au/news/rescue-stories/353-fiordland-penguin-on-south-coast.html [Moderator’s note (NH): This is only the fifth in NSW record of this species and is subject to submission to NSW ORAC] Cheers, Nikolas —————- Nikolas Haass nhaass@yahoo.com Brisbane, QLD =============================== To unsubscribe from this mailing list, send the message: unsubscribe (in the body of the message, with no Subject line) to: birding-aus-request@vicnet.net.au http://birding-aus.org ===============================
Hi all, For some funny reason this mail was posted with a several day delay. Not sure what is going on here. Anyway, I’d like to take this opportunity to correct the original post: (1) It was Tura Beach (not Tathra Beach) (2) It was Mara Roberts (not a man) who found the bird “On the 13th September 2013 (see Eremaea/Birdline NSW #198976), on Tura Beach (far south coast of NSW) Mara Roberts noticed a bedraggled penguin lying amongst the rocks on the shore line. She immediately called WIRES and the Fiordland Penguin came into care. It had been injured by either another marine creature or a propeller and has a wound on his chest which is now healing well (2nd October). It is being cared for by Janine for WIRES at her house, not by Merimbula Aquarium. There are some politics involved here, so I won’t say anything else on the matter. Still, it’s a great bird, and hopefully it survives to breed! Check the Merimbula Aquarium Facebook page…. I believe they are caring for wires. Hi All I don’t think it’s at the aquarium Steve, as far as I know it is still being cared for by WIRES with guidance from NPWS – currently set to possibly be released in a few months. I submitted the birdline report because my mum (who is the website administrator) brought it to my attention. I will get my hands on some more photos and do a quick NSW ORAC submission, since I don’t think anyone else will! Still holding out for the day I find my own beachwashed penguin… 😉 Cheers, Joshua Bergmark On 3 October 2013 10:30, Steve Sass < sassyskink@yahoo.com.au> wrote: =============================== To unsubscribe from this mailing list, send the message: unsubscribe (in the body of the message, with no Subject line) http://birding-aus.org ===============================
