Hi folks. Earlier this year in June, there were a number of emails receiving comment about Fernwren in the Mossman Gorge area. Today, we were lucky to find two Fernwren there on the longer rainforest walk. The male was very obliging – giving us sustained views – and seemed to be following an Orange-footed Scrubfowl – the OFS was obviously digging deeper and the FW, while also doing his scratching, didn’t need to work as hard!!!? According to Google, this Gorge is approx. 96 metres above sea-level – way below the accepted altitude for this bird. Other birds of note were Yellow-throated Scrubwren, Grey-headed Robin, lots of Spectacled Monarchs and female Victoria’s Riflebirds at least (others were heard).
