Far North Queensland observations

Hi Folks, With the “Wet Season” (which we desperate need) approaching Pale-vented Bush-hen and Red-necked Crake have started to appear and call. Whether they leave the area or just go silent during the winter months we don’t know. Apartfrom hearing a bush-hen in August once we had no sightings or calling of either species over the winter months. Noisy Pitta have also been calling constantly day and night for at least the last month and are the noisiest we have heard them in seven years. They are mainly calling from 5-20m up in the rainforest trees. Hopefully they will have a good breeding season after last years failure by two pairs.
