Facebook

I use Eremaea and Birding-Aus as tools for being aware of what is
happening around the country. I also use FB, but as a place that I can
see the birds and many other creatures of the natural world I am
interested in, as well as where they have been sighted. I also use FB as
a reference ‘tool’. If I have exhausted all avenues available to me and
still cannot i.d. a mammal, insect, reptile etc, I will post a request
for help.

In regard to Tim Bawden’s comment re privacy, I registered under a name
similar enough to my real one for friends to know who I am and used a
gmail account to register that is not used in my personal life. Used
sensibly, these forums can be a very useful adjunct to gaining
knowledge.

It is easy to delete a FB account. Go to settings, manage FB account and
use the delete section. FB will keep the account open for a period of
time, in case you change your mind, then permanently delete it.
