Eyre Bird Observatory

Kirri (?) asked about the EBO. Highlights are Rock Parrot, Blue-breasted Fairy-wren, Major Mitchell’s Cockatoo, Brush Bronzewing, a good range of honeyeaters, possible Chestnut Quail-thrush, possible Malleefowl, etc, etc. Western Pygmy Possum. Check the area near the microwave tower for quail-thrush, Shy Heathwren, Malleefowl, etc. I would recommend contacting Arubiddy Station for permission to access the station. They have Blue Bonnet, Orange Chat, Inland Dotterel, Slender-billed Thornbill, Rufous Fieldwren, Nullarbor Quail-thrush (difficult), Scarlet-chested Parrot (occasionally), Ground Cuckoo-shrike, Australian Bustard, White-winged Fairy-wren, etc. Arubiddy is across the road from Cocklebiddy. If you want Nullarbor Quail-thrush, I have heard that it is a fairly good chance just north of Eucla. I haven’t been there, so I can’t give you more precise details. There is of course the traditional Thomas & Thomas site near the Nullarbor Roadhouse in SA. Also check out the area out the back right of Cocklebiddy, where there is a sewage pond. _________________________________________________________________ Frank O’Connor Birding WA http://birdingwa.iinet.net.au Phone : (08) 9386 5694 Email : foconnor@iinet.net.au
