Experiences with ozscopes.com.au

I’m currently looking into purchasing my first spotting scope and have been looking at the website www.ozscopes.com.au. Has anybody had any experience purchasing from this website? Any other tips on good retail outlets in Melbourne for spotting scopes and what brands to stick to or stay clear of would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Luke. =============================== To unsubscribe from this mailing list, send the message: unsubscribe (in the body of the message, with no Subject line) to: birding-aus-request@vicnet.net.au http://birding-aus.org ===============================

Thanks guys. Good tips. I am more than happy with a pair of quite cheap vortex binoculars I bought in Canada for easy carrying. May go the vortex route again David —–Original Message—– Sent: Friday, 12 July 2013 9:30 AM Cc: David Bruce; Jude Latt; lsullivanllh@gmail.com; birding-aus@vicnet.net.au Hi Ray, I have to agree with you in the Vortex Razor HD – absolutely superb for the money, crisp bright images, very robust (my son has sent mine flying across the room which only damaged my blood-pressure not the scope) and lifetime warranty – I am a total convert… Ended up buying the equivalent binoculars from them too – and again superb value for money. The main reason i can see for not looking at the Vortex Razor range (budget permitting) is if you want to be seen with particular brand names… What amazes me though is how few people in the field I meet seem to have even heard of Vortex as a company, Cheers all – and happy Friday, Ed Ed Williams Kingsville, VIC On 11/07/2013, at 8:48 PM, “Raymond Pearson” < raymondpearson@bigpond.com> wrote: =============================== To unsubscribe from this mailing list, send the message: unsubscribe (in the body of the message, with no Subject line) http://birding-aus.org ===============================

Hi David As a relatively new birder I recently decided to add a scope to my tools of trade. I didn’t have the budget for the Swarovski/Leica end of the spectrum, so I did a lot of online research of scopes in the ‘mid’ bracket. I eventually decided upon the Vortex Razor HD, which I note that Ozscopes stock (bought mine elsewhere). I am extremely happy with the performance, and have even had it alongside a Swarovski with much more experienced birders. In my opinion (and theirs), the comparative performance belied the very considerable difference in cost. There are plenty of similar glowing reviews on the net. However the advice I was given by many birders prior to my purchase was to buy the best that I could afford – and I agree. It’s likely to be a once in a lifetime purchase I suggest you give the Vortex some consideration in any case Cheers Ray Pearson —–Original Message—– [mailto:birding-aus-bounces@lists.vicnet.net.au] On Behalf Of David Bruce Sent: Thursday, 11 July 2013 11:28 AM Hi Luke and Jude, I am also curious as in the same boat. Wondering how much you should pay to get a decent scope within a decent price range would be helpful too. The web site looked enticing so would love to hear if you had any replies.
