Several people responded to my question about a bird app for Southern Argentina/Chile, so I’d just like to let them know that I did see quite a few birds at Ushuaia, including the attractive Black-faced Ibis, and although we couldn’t get within helicopter range of the Emperor Penguin colony because of pack ice, I did see 4 individual birds on icebergs. The captain stopped the ship for two of them so that we could enjoy those Emperor Penguins for a time. One bird certainly towered over the two Adelies on the same piece of ice. Hi Steve, Thanks for posting that. I wonder how useful it would be considering the number of birds in South America having just been to a BirdLife meeting where the topic was Birding Brazil, and having heard about the high number of endemics in Ecuador and Columbia, for example. There is an iOS app. Birds of South America. Fairly rough but has info on over 3000 species. Supposed to be a work in progress but no updates in the months I’ve had it. Cheers Steve Clark Hamilton, Vic Sent from my iPod
