Some news from duck rescuers. Over Easter, a Crested Pigeon and a Wood Duck were found injured. The Crested Pigeon had a bad eye injury and didn’t recover. The Wood Duck, which appeared equally badly injured, with blood oozing from its bill, was taken to a vet then a wildlife carer. After a week of care, it had recovered and was released at a farm near where it was found. For anyone finding an injured bird, this suggests it’s never too late to try and help. As a postscript, a duck shooter was told about the Wood Duck before its recovery. His comment? ‘The sooner you release it, the sooner we can shoot it!’
