I just checked the books. The scientific name listed below is the proper Topknot pigeon. As you say most non-birders call the Crested Pigeon a Topknot – I’ve been told by several young boys when I’ve been tutoring outback that the books are wrong! They might have meant Crested Pigeon, called it Topknot, then looked up the scientific name without checking with an illustration. Does this need to be pointed out to some authority. Surely they can’t mean the real Topknot!
