G’day all I’m traveling to Tanzania via Doha, Qatar in August and have from early morning until after midnight to amuse myself there. Birding is the obvious solution – I’m keen to add to House Sparrow on my Qatar list. Does anyone know of a birder in Doha I could contact? Has anyone been birding in Doha? The best places close to Doha to go birding are the Abu Nakhla sewage ponds (on the Salwa Road just beyond the city- maybe a 30 minute drive) and the Irkhayya Farm (also on Salwa Road – maybe 30 minutes further drive on the road to Saudi) Amazing birding at both places. I tried contacting Doha bird club people when I was there last Nov. but nothing eventuated. There’s a few birds in parkland near Museum of Islamic Art and along the Corniche wherever trees and grass try to grow. Doha is concrete/construction city. Because I was there for a RedList workshop time was limited. If you can get to Al Thakhira mangroves there’s mudflats and a boardwalk which I never got to. Went past them and looked longingly. Six life birds much sitting indoors was my lot.
