Hi, I found Syd Curtis’s post wonderfully interesting and, like Syd, was intrigued by the name “Devil-bird” used by Marnix as a name for the Yellow-throated Scrub-wren. Although not much to go on, J. D. Macdonald’s ‘The illustrated Dictionary of Australian Birds” notes, “…name said to be given because they live in dark places beside mountain streams ‘where neither sun nor moon can penetrate’.”
