Cockatoos over the MCG

Written by

Hello all

I am visiting Melbourne currently and was at the MCG late yesterday afternoon – I was delighted to see a flock of around 26 Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoos fly right past the stadium while I waited for a tram after the game. Not being a local I wondered if this was an unusual sighting either by number or location so close to the CBD?

Regardless it was a great moment particularly after the disappointment of the game result I’d just seen!!!

Hi all, I work just opposite the MCG and a flock of around 80-90 birds has been hanging around the parks in the general area over the last couple of weeks. There seem to be more this winter than last year when I saw them here last (about a dozen last year). The site outside my office window – 9 floors up – of the full 90 of them flying right past the window was stunning. Cheers all, Ed Ed WilliamsKingsville VIC
