Heard the first call for the season of the CBC as it flew over our home at 6:20am this morning.

Ronda, The first CBCs usually arrive in NSW in the last week of August/first week of September (at least over the last pentade). Having said that, I think that there are some data indicating a trend towards earlier arrivals in the last decade or pentade. Don’t have the literature here. I thought I heard one just north of the Qld border a few days ago, but thought it would be too early – I don’t think we usually see them until October, or at least late September Cheers Ronda Message-ID: < BLU180-W55B8171DD315B4756B03A9BA3E0@phx.gbl> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=”iso-8859-1″ A CBC calling close by startled me out of my post-election daze yesterday afternoon – my first of the season. Saw one at Shellharbour today, my earliest sighting. Was not calling, just sitting quietly in the forest. ]Cheers Chris
Tom, I am usually a month behind the Sydney folks and this bothered me a great deal but I now accept that our birds (tropical Queensland) come from PNG and yours from Indonesia. Regards, Alan

Hi all Just had a pair over my house in Turramurra, Sydney. This is my 3rd earliest record in 13 years here. Normally, I have to wait 10 days after the first Sydney records before they appear here (ie I have 10 more days of quiet mornings!) – this year it is only 6 days. Cheers Tom Wilson
