Change of access – Western Treatment Plant Werribee

Received the following: (I cannot attach the map but can forward to anyone who wants it) Dave From next Monday (20 October) WTP Gates 5 & 6 will be temporarily closed to birdwatchers. Lake Borrie and Paradise Ponds will be available from Gate 4 however Ryans Swamp will not be accessible during this period (refer to attached map). It is expected we will return to normal bird watching access by the end of the year. We have changed bird watchers’ access to ensure the safety of our visitors while a section of the Lake Borrie pipeline is constructed. This work will involve the use of large machinery, deep trenches and changed ground and traffic conditions. We appreciate WTP visitors’ understanding while we undertake this project which will contribute to WTP’s world renowned biodiversity. The construction of the Lake Borrie pipeline will transfer partially treated sewage to Lake Borrie which will restore the nutrient supply to this key bird foraging area and provide low cost sewage treatment. *We encourage you to let your fellow birdwatchers know about these changes and contact Robyn Brown on 1800 027 517 if you require further information. *
