Hello All I have just returned from a two week Central Australia birding adventure with a mate of mine, Ken Haines. We have been planning this trip for some months now and the two weeks of school holidays was a great opportunity to implement this trip. We prepared for this trip using a number of resources. The recently published book by Tim Dolby and Rohan Clark was an excellent starting point. I must make the comment on how accurate this book is and is a ‘must’ for any birding enthusiast. Combined with recent reports from Birdline, as well as very helpful advice from people such as Kay Parkin, Glenn Pacey, John Weigel, Rob Farnes and Martin Catchard, made this trip to be one of the most successful and enjoyable birding adventures I have embarked on. I hope the following summary in the attachment will help people enjoy the same success as we did! But I must warn you that we covered a lot of distance(over 6000 kms in 13 days including 2500 on dirt tracks!) and worked very hard for most of these birds so I apologise if they appear easy to locate. I must point out also that both Ken and I are avid bird photographers so we were after so much more than just seeing birds. We wanted to photograph them and the results we obtained were unbelievable! We had a number of key targets and we were able to get great shots of most of them. Below is a summary of our trip and hopefully it will be useful for people wanting to find certain species. I must also mention it was a great trip to photograph snakes and lizards. We found some great specimens and we lost count of the Central Bearded Dragons we saw along the way. I will begin posting photos on birdline but if people want to see these photos, please email me for a copy. It may take a few days to respond as I am still sorting through photos.
