Brolgas, crows, and a dead cormorant…

Had a great drive down from Tennant Creek Today.

At the large dam on the western side of the Stuart Highway opposite the railway overpass at the Ali-Curung turn off there were three Brolga standing by the water’s edge.

Of course I pulled over for a look as I have never seen anything of note in this dam at all. As I opened my door a murder (quite literally as it would turn out) of Little Crows flew past, chasing a Little Black Cormorant. The cormorant flew into a nearby Bloodwood, but to no avail as the crows attacked it mercilessly, until it was a helpless figure on the ground beneath a pile of crows. They proceeded to eat it.

Is this odd crow behaviour considering the abundant food available around here at the moment which doesn’t require chasing and gang-pecking?

Anyway, the Brolgas were a stunning highlight to the drive.
