broad-billed flycatcher on sunshine coast – Notso!

Now to correct my mistake! I meant to say outer rectrices are 5-7 mm SHORTER (not longer) than the central pair. SORRY …

    G’day Greg

Well done for putting your head above the parapet. I thought your pics looked good for Broad-bills but I haven’t had much experience with them and wasn’t aware of the tail structure differences either. So I’ve learned something thanks to you!

Did you see the report of the Sydney pelagic where someone called Streaked Shearwater and the bird morphed into a young Wanderer? Nowhere to escape on a small boat.

I recently spent a year in nw Tanzania (http://bukobasteve.blogspot.com/) and found that some of the accepted and published knowledge of birds of the area was wrong. Some species supposed to be there were actually closely related species from neighbouring Uganda or Rwanda. Others that were called common were not. Some occurred in different habitats from that described.

Hopefully others will look at my records and confirm or correct them. It was fun and gratifying to add to the bird knowledge of a remote corner of the world.

Congrats on your efforts on finding so many territories of the Shining Flycatcher. Cool birds!
