I had Black Bitterns and Bush-hens at the same site this morning on the Sunshine Coast. Along a rainforest-fringed stream near Wappa Dam, I had a pair of Black Bitterns. At the same time, at least two, and probably three, Bush-hens were vocalising in flooded grasses. The Black Bittern is becoming increasingly rare in southeast Queensland. I’ve not seen it in the coastal lowlands around the Sunshine Coast before but have had it in the hinterland near Kenilworth. Greg Roberts ===============================
