Birdpedia – Australia – Weekly Digest

The following is a digest of Sightings Reported on Birdpedia for the period Monday, December 30, 2019 to Sunday, January 5, 2020:

Area: SA

Location: On our Rockleigh property

Brown Treecreeper (Climacteris picumnus) (1) Brown treecreepers disappeared in Dec 2014 (almost 12 months after the bushfire) after having been resident for 6 years. One showed up 18 months ago, then no more till we saw this one (silent) bird

Rainbow Bee-eater (Merops ornatus) (2) A pair has been hanging around for a couple of months, busy catching insects, but so far no chicks seen. Will they ? Won’t they?

The Cudlee Creek bushfire got to within about 4 kms of our boundary, and had it not been for a fortunate wind change our place would have been burnt again. How lucky are we. Birds SA regular birding spots have been burnt out, Bushland Park at Lobethal, Porter Scrub and Charlton CP
