Date: Monday, May 21, 2018

Location: In our St Peters garden

Eastern Spinebill (Acanthorhynchus tenuirostris) (1) Our spinebill arrived on April 7th, and has been hanging around ever since. Usually it is just heard calling, but this morning was spotted feeding in the flowers of a prostrate grevillea (Grevillea lanigera, Mt Tamboritha form) in the middle of the driveway. I am pretty sure it is a female, but have only ever glimpsed its back before it flies into the dense pittosporum next door.
This is only the second time we have seen a spinebill in our garden. Last time was in June 2014, and then only for a very brief visit, just a few hours.

Reported by: Barbara and Peter Bansemer on Monday, May 21, 2018
