Birdpedia – Australia – Weekly Digest

The following is a digest of Sightings Reported on Birdpedia for the period Monday, April 11, 2016 to Sunday, April 17, 2016:

Area: SA

Location: Approximately 2 kms out to sea (Boat) off Seaford Trig Point.

Australasian Gannet (Morus serrator) (1) Flying purposefully south about 20 metres high. These birds are only an irregular sighting while fishing the Seaford area and seldom in any numbers over the many years I’ve observed them here.

Date: Sunday, April 17, 2016

Location: Port Stanvac jetty reef.

Sooty Oystercatcher (Haematopus fuliginosus) (1) Interesting to see a small group of these birds sitting on the small reef which runs parallel to the beach from the base section of the now defunct port Stanvac jetty running south/north. I have observed Sooty oyster-catchers on a number of occasions on Port Noarlunga reef on low tides but this sighting was a first for me.

Date: Sunday, April 17, 2016

Location: Laratinga Wetlands Mount Barker.

Spotless Crake (Porzana tabuensis) (1) flitting along a thin reed bed very low for about 20 metres before settling and giving me a diagnostic look at its red eye.
