Birdpedia – Australia – Weekly Digest

The following is a digest of Sightings Reported on Birdpedia for the period Monday, October 7, 2013 to Sunday, October 13, 2013: Area: SA Location: Maize Island Lagoon Conservation Park Crimson Chat (Epthianura tricolor) (6) First time seen at this site. Several pairs feeding on low vegetation on dried-up lagoon. Photos taken for confirmation. Reported by: Peter Jacobs on Monday, October 7, 2013 ——————————————— Date: Wednesday, October 9, 2013 Location: Pat’s Rest, 300m east of Warnes Scrub, Owen Red-backed Kingfisher (Todiramphus pyrrhopygius) (1) 1st official sighting on the property. Perched in some sugar gums allowing a few photo’s before heading off. Black Honeyeater (Certhionyx niger) (2) The juvenile black reported earlier in the week is still present, but another juvenile bird has also been located. White-fronted Honeyeater (Phylidonyris albifrons) (4) White-winged Triller (Lalage tricolor) (1) Single male bird. A visit to the plantation with Chris Steeles to see if the Black Honeyeater was still present. It was, and turns out it has been joined by another young bird. Probably more surprising was the sighting of a Red Backed Kingfisher. We have only ever seen this bird in the area one other time, and that was many years ago. White fronted honeyeaters are still present as there is lot’s of flowering Eremophilas at the moment and a male White Winged Triller was also a bonus. All photos were taken by Chris Steeles on a hot and windy morning. Reported by: Michael Warnes on Saturday, October 12, 2013 ——————————————— Need more information about a sighting?
