Anyone looking for an outstanding app to record sightings in the field can download Birdlog ANZ for only 99 cents (reduced from $10.49) from the iTunes store (link below) . I have used similar apps in the past including Birdsight Au, for about 2 years, but Birdlog is a quantum leap in front of the competition. I have been using Birdlog for the past 3 months and it has revolutionised the way I record my sightings.
Again I have no ties with the company, that developed the app, simply a satisfied user. Regards Alastair

Hi Alistair,
I suggest you have a look at Birdwatcher’s Diary< http://www.stevenscreek.com/birdwatchersdiary.htm>. It is more expensive ($13.99, but you can buy iTunes gift cards at up to 25% off to reduce this) but much more comprehensive.
You can record all the birds you see (or hear) without having to type any characters.
It comes with US & UK lists, and lists for most other countries are available and easy to download for free from their website, or you can create your own. I have created a list for the Western Treatment Plant in Victoria and it is a breeze to record the birds with a list of only ~150 species.
It is definitely worth the money as far as I am concerned.
